Known documents involved to the Caffé Dante area begin in the XV century, when the place was turned into an orphanage, called Casa della Pietà, with a hidden cradle for unwanted children on the outside. According to the documents, in 1837 the place belonged to a certain Mr. Giovanni Squarzoni, who transformed the ground floor in a café, calling it “caffè Squarzoni”. In 1860 Mr. Luigi Capobianco bought the property and gave also it his own name.
